Building a strong community
As a member Association of the broader Victorian and National YMCA movement, Manningham YMCA Incorporated has been serving the community of Manningham for 15 years. Since its formation Manningham YMCA has provided health, wellness and community development programs as an integral part of its mission to help people build a healthy spirit, mind and body. While many people may be aware of this particular aspect of the YMCA and may have experienced its benefits, our objective is to enrich and enhance the lives of members of our Manningham community. As a values-based charity with over one million people walking through our doors per annum, Manningham YMCA touches the lives of people of all ages, faiths, backgrounds, abilities and incomes. In the last 15 years Manningham YMCA has provided more than $500,000 in additional charitable or benevolent assistance to give families and youth in need the chance to benefit from Y programs and services.

YMCA History
The World YMCA Movement commenced in England in 1844 and very rapidly spread throughout the world. The YMCA now operates in over 120 countries making the World Alliance of YMCAs one of the largest international community organisations. In Australia, early settlers founded branches of the London YMCA. The Adelaide branch of the London YMCA opened on the 15th March 1851. In 1853, Melbourne and Sydney appeared, followed by Hobart in 1854. In 1877, the 'Inter-Colonial Convention of the Australian and New Zealand YMCA was formed. The National Committee of YMCAs comprising of Australia and New Zealand was drawn up in 1906. However 1920 saw the formation of separate National Associations for the two countries. The National Committee of the YMCAs of Australia came into being, with its offices in Melbourne. The name was changed in 1958 to the current name, The National Council of the YMCAs of Australia

Community consultation
Manningham YMCA provides other local community and government organisations assistance with their approach to programming. Our ability to form partnerships via valuable networking provides the means for mutual growth. Through regular community consultation Manningham YMCA has initiated a number of successful local projects determined by the needs and gaps found within service and program delivery.Collaborative local networks are extensive and inclusive in their decision-making.
